Abstract—A very useful analysis approach for hyperspectral data has been linear unmixing which is a projection into a coordinate system where the coordinates are the constituent or endmember spectra of the scene. The most useful technique is to determine the spectra from the image. Once these spectra are found, the image cube can be “unmixed” into fractional abundances of each material in each pixel. Several autonomous methods, ORASIS, the first real time autonomous algorithm; N-FINDR, an algorithm that determines endmembers by inflating a simplex, and Iterative Error Analysis (IEA) which finds endmembers by iterative unmixing are compared in this paper. Computer implementations of the three autonomous algorithms are evaluated using hyperspectral AVIRIS data of Cuprite, Nevada. The fractional abundance maps produced by the three algorithms are compared to a mineral map made by the USGS based upon an AVIRIS scene, and the endmember spectra are compared to library spectra.

Target Detection Improvements in Hyperspectral Images by Adjusting Band Weights and Identifying end-members in Feature Space Clusters
Spectral target detection could be regarded as one of the strategic applications of hyperspectral data analysis. The presence of targets in an area smaller than a pixel’s ground coverage has led to the development of spectral un-mixing methods to detect these types of targets. Usually, in the spectral un-mixing algorithms, the similar weights have been assumed for spectral bands. Howe...

Hyperspectral data in Remote Sensing which have been gathered with efficient spectral resolution (about 10 nanometer) contain a plethora of spectral bands (roughly 200 bands). Since precious information about the spectral features of target materials can be extracted from these data, they have been used exclusively in hyperspectral target detection. One of the problem associated with the detect...

The ability of recording the high resolution spectral signature of earth surface would be the most important feature of hyperspectral sensors. On the other hand, classification of hyperspectral imagery is known as one of the methods to extracting information from these remote sensing data sources. Despite the high potential of hyperspectral images in the information content point of view, there...

Hyperspectral data potentially contain more information than multispectral data because of their higher spectral resolution. However, the stochastic data analysis approaches that have been successfully applied to multispectral data are not as effective for hyperspectral data as well. Various investigations indicate that the key problem that causes poor performance in the stochastic approaches t...

The hyperspectral imagery provides images in hundreds of spectral bands within different wavelength regions. This technology has increasingly applied in different fields of earth sciences, such as minerals exploration, environmental monitoring, agriculture, urban science, and planetary remote sensing. However, despite the ability of these data to detect surface features, the measured spectrum i...
